Mr. Python

Cami was practicing her lines for the Christmas Eve Nativity, reciting the gentle words of Mary, handmaid of the Lord, when Jason burst out laughing.

"Know what I heard her say? 'Behold the hand grenade of the Lord'."

Food of the gods

Rosie must have caught the scent of melting Extra Creamy Lindt, because her bedtime plea tonight was, "I love chocolate. I like chocolate. I waaaaant chocolate."

Words of Wisdom

Rosie quote of the day: I don't like sleeping, but I love sleeping.

I will remind her when she doesn't want to go to bed tonight.

I Told Him I'm Not -- American Mothers' Day Special

Graham just told me, "Mom, you're the best person in our family. But I'm not sure if you're the best person in the world."

I Hear You

Rosie just rolled up a tortilla and used it as a megaphone to call, "Hellooo. . . can you hear me?"

Moooooo

"Soy milk comes from soy cows."

He's Not Beckham

Cami got a surprised laugh out of me & Jason when she asked, "Dad will you quit your job & become a footballer?"

Saturday, June 12, 2010

You don't say?

Rosie just walked up to Jason & declared, "I want a banana, I said."

Squeak, Squeak

As I was pouring out her requested drink, Cami quipped, "If you give a girl some bread with butter, she will want a glass of orange juice."

Which Came First: the Pancake or the Mac?

I mentioned to Jason that I'd overheard someone talking about IHOP (International House of Pancakes). He observed, "It sounds like a rabbit made by Apple."

Will Jason Guess?

Graham & Jason are upstairs playing "I Spy." Graham won a blog point when he announced, "I spy with my little eye something that is Mommy-shaped."

YES! I'm Right

Cami just told me & Jason: You are both wrong, except for Mom.

What Appliance are You?

Cami just called to me while I was in the basement, "Mom, I dropped the grapes before I washed them & Rose is eating them -- she's like a vacuum."

Oh No, Another One

Jason and I met in logic class. It was inevitable that at least one of our offspring would excel at seeing the world through LEMming (Logic, Epistemology, and Metaphysics) glasses.

We were on the middle floor of our house today when I told Graham that something was downstairs. He looked at Jason & said, "We are in the middle. So, we are downstairs & upstairs."

Geometrics

Graham wanted me to cut up his waffle at supper (we've been gorging on waffles during the mid-term break). But he didn't just ask for help eating his supper -- he revealed a genetic propensity for mixed up geometry. "I want squaretangles!"

So Close, But So Wrong

Cami has become a very accomplished reader. She still wants me to read to her, but if she really wanted to, I think she could manage most stories on her own. Her skills are probably between an American second and third grade level, but mistakes do happen.

She was just sitting next to me, looking at a DVD collection that Jason had left out from last night. "Hm, it's India Jones."

Current Events

Our bishop from church came by yesterday morning to extend the calling of First Counselor in the Primary Presidency to me. That means that I'll be helping with the children's auxiliary (& Cami & Graham no longer get a two-hour break from me). After I'd accepted, Bishop Riozzi said, "You'd probably like to know who the president is."

Cami made us laugh when she said, "The President is Barak Obama."

As we all should be

Cami was just addressing a Christmas card to a friend.

"Adrienne will be happy for joy when she gets this letter."

Graham's Title

I distractedly said, "Thank you, Mr. Graham," as I was working in the kitchen & he moved out of my way.

His cute response, "Your welcome, Mr. Mommy."

Dog Daze

Graham, Rose, & I took a walk along the canal this morning, exploring new territory. I found a pair of truly lovely houses just past the canal boat launch. They are the sort of homes I dream of having: comfortably large classical stonework houses, placed among the fields, with a chicken coop off to the side.

When we are off exploring we often encounter dogs walking their owners. Or owners calling their dogs back because they've decided it isn't wise to let their pets run without a leash when a small boy is around. One of the most striking dogs we saw this morning was a dalmatian. I pointed it out to Graham with, "Isn't the dog with the spots pretty?"

"Those aren't spots. He's dirty!"
